What makes dirty dough so clean?
At Calais Designs, we are committed to our children and the
environment! We only use organic and natural ingredients in all our
products. You will never find any harmful chemicals in our
collection! Our dough is all handmade so we know and control
exactly what goes into each batch! Plus, it’s all food ingredients!
Even the rolling pins are locally made especially for us in an eco
workshop from SFI & FSC certified wood! No chemical treatment!
What is wrong with other companies?
According to the current Play-Doh patent (U.S. Patent 6,713,624),
the compound is essentially a starch-based binder mixed with water,
salt, lubricant and preservative. To be more specific, it contains:
Water, Starch-based binder, Retrogradation inhibitor, Salt,
Lubricant, Surfactant, Preservative, Hardener, Humectant,
Fragrance, Color
As you can see, aside from the water and salt, the product is
chemical based! As an example, the word ‘fragrance’ encompasses
over 4000 different ingredients 90% of which have been listed as
‘known or suspected to be carcinogens’. See our website for more!
What packaging do you use?
Our kraft boxes and crinkle cut paper fill are made from 100% post
consumer recycled paper. Ribbon is biodegradable cotton.
Playdough is put in either reusable glass jars or corn-based
biodegradable/compostable containers.
If it is so clean, why name it Dirty Dough?
Well, with all the ‘greenwashing’ we see in the commercial sector,
we decided to do the opposite! Instead of calling something ‘green’
or ‘eco-friendly’ when it really isn’t, we called ours ‘dirty’ when it
really is ‘clean’, ‘organic’ & ‘eco-friendly’!!! Plus, it’s pretty catchy!
How long does Dirty Dough last?
Dirty Dough will last for months, as long as it is taken care of
properly. After use, replace back into airtight containers. If it starts
to dry out a little bit, add a little water or organic olive oil to soften
it up, or just work it really good by kneading with your hands! Once
it’s outlived it’s time, simply put it in your compost bin! We also
stuff the jar! Yep, it’s a little tough to get out so dig in and have fun!
Is it Gluten Free?
No, but it can be! Just contact us with any requests in regards to
allergies and we will make a special batch for your family! As we
have dairy, wheat, fruit, meat, etc….allergies, we know exactly
what it is like and would love to help you out!
Can we request a special order?
Of course! Whether you are looking for special ingredients, scents
or colours, just let us know! Having a party? We can custom colour
the kits to exactly what you need! Simply place your request through Tammy

Does it come scented?
We will be adding organic essential oils to our dough in the future
to produce a wonderfully scented product! It will not be listed as
‘fragrance’, as we have nothing to hide! The essential oil will be
clearly listed in the ingredients. Unscented dough is also available.

find in almost all products or at the grocery store. They are made
especially for the organic and natural food industry and contain
only natural or organic components. They are extracted from
vegetables and plants only! They do not contain copper, heavy
metals or chlorophyll.
